"A couple of immersion dyeing questions for you.

With the acid dyes that you use, do you find the colour deepens the longer you leave it in the dye bath? And, if so, do you find it a significant difference? And do your mixed colours change shades the longer they sit in the dye?

I use food safe dyes (food colouring, Kool Aid and Easter egg dye tablets), and I know with those dyes, the reds strike faster than the blues, so longer dye times can really impact the final colours."

"Photographing question. Now that I’ve learned some of the methods to dyeing thanks to your tutorials, can you please tell us how you photograph the finished product? Should it be in natural light, under bright lights, hiding under a sheet (yes tried that)? My pictures are not showing the true colors and its blowing it out, over saturating?"

AMA Thread: "My question is more of a “is there any reason not to” kind of question. I have roaster oven which I do not use. Somehow I thought I would use it for entertaining (silly me, since I’m an introvert and inviting people over is super stressful for me). Anyhow, I’m wondering if you can think of any reason why I couldn’t use it for heat setting the yarn? It’s self contained, has a rack and vented lid which I can close up with foil and uses standard oven heat settings like 350, etc. I know that I could not use it for food once I’ve used it for yarn, but at least I would be using it instead of it taking up closet space with no purpose for its life." - ClassicalGirl

"I have just begun dyeing yarn and wool. I try to dye every other day. So far I have about 8 skeins, and am starting to dye roving tonight. I am using acid dyes. I have been doing kettle dyeing (immersion dyeing) and I am trying for variegated. I feel somewhat frustrated. I still feel like I don’t really know what I am doing, or the colors aren’t coming out like I imagined. Once they dry, I begin to like them. How long did it take for you to feel comfortable with the process?"
